How to Draw an Otter – Fun Step-by-Step Animal Drawing for Kids
Mar 05, 2026
Playful paws and a smooth tail take shape as kids follow easy drawing steps to bring a cheerful otter to life on paper.
Step 1: Draw a tiny, lumpy "fluffy" line for the top of the head.

Step 2: Create two curved ear designs on both sides of your fluff.

Step 3: Draw the rounded edges that make up the face, creating them somewhat soft.

Step 4: Incorporate the inner ear details, then draw a small chin line at the bottom.

Step 5: Draw two eyes with curved sides and place a nose in the centre.

Step 6: Draw the muzzle. It should be a round shape that wraps around the nose and an erect mouth line.

Step 7: The right hand should hang down, ending with a small paw.

Step 8: Create a long, curved line along the left side to elongate the neck.

Step 9: Make a right angle on your body using a slightly rough edge, a furry edge, and a stomach curve.

Step 10: Create a large round curve to the left side of the hips/upper leg.

Step 11: The left hand should be drawn along the abdomen, ending by grabbing your foot.

Step 12: Then add the front foot to the lower part (a rectangular, flat shape).

Step 13: Draw the lower tummy line, then place the other front foot on top.

Step 14: Draw a long tail that sweeps across the otter's back.

Step 15: Create the inner line of the tail to display the curve and thickness of the tail.

Step 16: Draw tiny fur tufts over the head. Add tiny claw/toe lines to the feet and paws.

Step 17: Begin the fish by drawing one long, curving side of its body in between the paws.

Step 18: Complete the body of the fish with the second line from the side down to where the tail will be.

Step 19: Draw the tail fin of the fish (a simple fin that is forked).

Step 20: Add the details of the face of a fish eye and a tiny mouth/gill line.

Step 21: Make whiskers on both sides of an otter's mouth.

Step 22: Include two large eyes on an otter's face.

Step 23: Draw the circles of the pupils or inner eye within the eyes.

Step 24: Finalise the eyes with the last details, and your otter drawing is completed.
