You know, when I was about your age, I was at a store with my mother.
As I walked down an aisle, I saw the most beautiful fish.

It was so beautiful, and it had all the colours of a rainbow.
I just had to have it.

“Mommy! Look at that beautiful fish! Can you buy it for me?
I've been good and will take extra good care of it. I promise.”

Well, since I had been very good, and after some promises to care for the fish, she bought it for me.

“Oh! You are so beautiful, but you need a name.
I think I will call you ‘Frankie the Fish’.”

But as the days went by, I got bored with Frankie. After all, Frankie the fish was, well, just a fish.
He just swam around in circles.
Then my mother said, “Train Frankie to do tricks.”
So here is what I did. Frankie and I were best friends for many years.

I trained Frankie to follow my finger.
Now, any time I put my finger on Frankie's home and move it, he follows my finger.
So, how'd I do it?
I got Frankie's attention by putting my finger on his home.
When he finally swam up to it, I rewarded him with a little food.
Then I moved my finger, and when Frankie followed it, I would give him a little food.
I moved my finger a little farther each day.
Of course, I always treated Frankie with a little food for a job well done.
Now Frankie follows my finger anywhere to get his treat.

I even trained Frankie to swim through a hoop.
Now, any time I put the hoop in Frankie's home, he swims through it.
So, how'd I do it?
First, I got a hoop that was bigger than Frankie, weighted so it would sink, and tied a string to it. (I asked my Mom if I could use her old bracelet).
Oh! Remember to clean the hoop before you put it into the fish’s home.
Here is the tricky part. I had to get Frankie interested in the hoop.
So I used my finger, and Frankie followed it. I ran my finger along the side of his home, where the hoop was. Finally, he swam through the hoop, and I rewarded him with some food.
Frankie did a lot of practicing for this trick. But now, when he sees the hoop, he goes right through it.
Of course, I always treat Frankie to a little food for a job well done.

Wow! I trained Frankie to jump out of the water.
Now, any time I put my finger over the water, Frankie jumps up into the air.
But I am always careful not to have him jump too close to the side of his home. Frankie doesn't like the floor.
So, how'd I do it?
Every day, I fed Frankie a little food over the top of the water. In a few days, Frankie knew that when he saw my hand over the water, he was going to get a treat.

Then I trained Frankie to come up to the top by putting the tips of my fingers in the water. Of course, I had a little food in them.
After a few days, I raised my fingertips just above the water, and Frankie poked his head out to get his treat.
Each day I held my fingers a little higher, and Frankie would come out of the water a little more.
Finally, his treat was high enough to make Frankie jump all the way out of the water.
Now, when he sees my fingers over his house, he jumps out of the water to get his treat.

I have the best trained fish in the world.
Frankie The Fish is NOT just a fish!
He is Frankie, The Wonder Fish.
And my best friend.
