On the top of a mountain, nestled deep in the woods, there was a pond. A pond like no other, you see, it was magical. Oh, it looked like any other pond. The water was clear, but it always seemed to have a special brightness, even on a cloudy day.

Every year, two Canada geese would visit the pond to make their nest, lay their eggs, and raise their babies. The geese, Hansel and Gretel, didn’t know the pond was magic. They only knew that the pond was safe and had a lot of food.
Oh, so you want to know why the pond was magical? Well, then I have to tell you my story.

When I was younger, I worked as a wilderness guide, a person who led people to special places so they wouldn’t get lost. I spend days, sometimes weeks, exploring new places. Oh, don’t get worried; I wasn’t a guide for hunters. Instead, I guided photographers and others who wanted to visit remote areas and observe animals.

After much searching, I stumbled upon a beautiful pond on the top of a mountain. It was unlike anything I had ever seen. Clear water is surrounded by large boulders and the biggest, greenest pine trees. I believe I was the first person to discover this wonderful place.

I noticed two Canadian geese swimming towards their nest without concern. This was their home.

Then I saw their nest. It was held together with strands of what looked like silver thread. I couldn’t believe my eyes.

When the geese swam back into the pond, I carefully moved to their nest for a closer view. I was right! Silver threads held the nest together. But where did they come from?

For weeks, I watched the geese and saw that each time they pulled a strand of seaweed from the pond, it magically turned into a silver thread. The pond must be magic.

Then I saw one of the geese walking on the shore. It bent down and picked up a pine needle, and before my eyes, that too turned to silver. It was then that I realised the geese were magical.

I didn’t know what to do. If caught the geese, I could become rich. But I didn’t think that was the right thing to do. So, I decided I should bring the geese to the wisest man in our town, the Mayor. He would know what to do.

I carefully trapped the geese and brought them to the Mayor.

When I met with the Mayor, I began by presenting a large pile of silver, and then I narrated to him the story of the magical geese. Before leaving, I had his assistant bring the geese into his office so he could see these magical creatures. The Mayor expressed his gratitude, and I left.
