Frilly gills and a smiling face make the axolotl one of the most fun and unusual creatures for kids to draw.

Step 1: Draw its circular head, which looks like a letter “C”.

Step 2: Draw its first gill on the left side of its head having a sharp, finger-like appearance.

Step 3: Draw another gill next to the previous one.

Step 4: Draw yet another gill that is somewhat smaller in size and located besides the two previous ones.

Step 5: Now let’s draw a small gill at the right side of its head.

Step 6: Also, draw a second gill located near the previous one, which is slightly larger in size.

Step 7: Draw an even bigger gill nearby.

Step 8: Give beady eyes for the animal using dots and a wide mouth with tiny dashes at the ends.

Step 9: Make feather patterns using tiny spikes surrounding the gill, located on the right side.

Step 10: Give feathers for the next gill lying beside it.

Step 11: Provide feathers to its other gills as well.

Step 12: Now create feathers for the left-side gill.

Step 13: Feathers are also given for the remaining gills.

Step 14: Create its lower body with a wide curve, inclined in position.

Step 15: Add its front leg that is short. Don’t forget to draw its tiny toes.

Step 16: Draw its upper body and back using an arc-shaped line.

Step 17: Draw the other leg.

Step 18: Lastly draw its lower belly using an arc-shaped line.

Step 19: Add one of its hind legs which is short with little pointed toes.

Step 20: Give a long, sharp tail for the animal.

Step 21: Create fin surrounding the tail with a wide curve.

Step 22: Complete the fin with a curve below the tail.

Step 23: Draw vertical lines across the lower body.

Step 24: Provide tiny vertical stripes throughout the fin at the back.

Step 25: Draw its eyes using small circles.

Step 26: Darken its eyes leaving one corner and a dot sized space of each eye.

Step 27: A gentle axolotl drawing is completed.
