How to Draw a Coral Reef – Easy Step-by-Step Ocean Drawing for Kids

Monkey Pen will show you how to design a simple coral reef with some pointers. 

Step 1: Sketch finger-like branches.

Step 2: Illustrate another branch of reefs.

Step 3: Trace another branch of reefs with your fingers.

Step 4: Draw 2 little curving lines from where the reef starts and ends.

Step 5: Draw a cloud shape above the curving line made in step four.

Step 6: Add a couple of wavy lines to stretch your cloud shape.

Step 7: Draw a little curved line around your cloud-shaped reef.

Step 8: Draw phytoplankton blooming on the top of the seabed with a curly design.

Step 9: Draw other spiral figures with growing phytoplankton.

Step 10: On the right side of the drawing draw thick and U-shaped seaweed.

Step 11: Draw a flat-cornered inverted U over the seaweed.

Step 12: Draw some wavy lines under the seaweed to indicate the surface of the ocean.  

Step 13: Place a shell with smooth curves and a rectangular base directly in front of the cloud shaped design.

Step 14: Add little ovals to the outer borders of the U-shaped seaweed and a cylindrical seaweed on top. Remember to put little circles inside the cloud formation and tiny ovals down on the seabed.

Step 15: Draw vertical lines through the shell; that is the pattern of the shell.

Step 16: Draw a fish with an oval-shaped body and a triangle tail with a curved base. 

Step 17: Attach the fish side fins outside of its body. And don’t forget to put a fin in its body, too.

Step 18: Draw curving vertical lines as designs on the body of the fish. Make a tiny dash for its mouth, too.

Step 19: Draw a second fish with a slightly smaller oval shape.

Step 20: Glue side fins to tail and one to the body surface.

Step 21: Add a vertical mouth for the fish.

Step 22: Draw tiny circles for the eyes of the fishes and fill them in.

Step 23: Draw small circles to create water bubbles. Draw a tiny bend on each of the circles.

Step 24: The stunning coral reef picture is complete.
