How to Draw a Gecko – Easy Climbing Lizard Drawing for Kids

This gecko drawing lesson makes an intricate little reptile feel surprisingly simple to sketch. You’re guided step by step through building its curved body, long tail, and tiny gripping feet, slowly adding those distinctive features that give a gecko its lively, wall-climbing character. Each stage is shown visually so beginners can follow along without getting lost in the details. Alongside the guided drawing steps, you also get downloadable PDF worksheets you can print and practice again and again.

How to draw a gecko step by step? With Monkey Pen’s guide, it is very easy.

Step 1: Draw a bulged head with two C shapes separated by a tiny curve in between.

Step 2: Draw the face and the lower body using small curves joined together.

Step 3: Add nostrils and a mouth with two dots and a wide curve with tiny dashes at the ends.

Step 4: Create its upper body with a curved line and include its curly tail at the back.

Step 5: Draw its front foreleg attached to toes.

Step 6: Continue the lower body with a small line that is almost straight

Step 7: Add its hind leg at the back along with its toes.

Step 8: Complete the tail with a big curve that rises above.

Step 9: Draw another front leg that is short.

Step 10: Provide curved, horizontal stripes for the tail.

Step 11: Include small dashes and curves below the head, above the legs and inside the toes.

Step 12: Add small spots or scales that look like ovals on the forehead, body and tail.

Step 13: Place small circles for the eyes.

Step 14: Shade the eye inside, leaving the corners and a dot-sized space in the upper corner, to indicate the pupil.

Step 15: Draw a wide round rock for the gecko to climb on, using medium curves.

Step 16: Below it, add a few rainbow shapes that look small to show the stones lying.

Step 17: Show grass or plants growing over a stone, using narrow spikes.

Step 18: Add grass above another stone, too.

Step 19: Also, include grass on the last stone.

Step 20: A scaly gecko drawing is over. Start shading it using your favorite colors for more fun.
