How to Draw a Horse – Easy Animal Drawing Tutorial for Kids

Drawing a horse can feel challenging at first, but this lesson breaks the process into clear, beginner-friendly steps that make it much easier to follow. The visual guide helps learners build the horse gradually, from the basic body shape to the legs, mane, and facial details, without feeling overwhelmed by proportions. It’s a rewarding activity for kids, animal lovers, and anyone looking to practice drawing larger animals. Printable PDF worksheets are included, making it easy to sketch along, repeat the lesson, and gain confidence with every stage of the drawing.

Flowing manes and strong legs come together as kids sketch a horse using smooth lines and simple drawing steps.

Step 1: Draw the initial small curly form for the horse's forelock.

Step 2: Include two ears with pointed tips behind the forelock.

Step 3: Draw a long, curved line that runs down from the head to mark the face of the horse.

Step 4: Then, add your lower facial and mouth curves.

Step 5: Make the initial flowy hairlocks behind the horse’s ear.

Step 6: Include more mane sections with pointed ends.

Step 7: Add length to the hair by adding long, wavy hair to the back.

Step 8: Make a nostril drawing, the inner detail of the ear, as well as an eye with a tiny closed eye just as shown in the image.

Step 9: Draw a long, curved neckline downwards towards the back.

Step 10: Attach the horse's back to one smooth curve.

Step 11: The first leg of the front is drawn from the lower side of its neck.

Step 12: Draw the second front leg next to the first one.

Step 13: Draw a belly line across your body.

Step 14:  Draw the first back leg back, starting from the end of the belly line.

Step 15: Include the second leg too.

Step 16: Draw a curved back as well as the hind leg outline.

Step 17: Make small hoof lines at the lower part of each leg.

Step 18: Draw the curvature that runs along the length of the tail.

Step 19: Then, add the lower curve to the tail.

Step 20: Draw some curved lines inside the tail.

Step 21: Include more lines of curved length within the tail.

Step 22: Draw a circle around the eye of the horse.

Step 23: Create a smaller circle, and shade it to form the pupil.

Step 24: Complete the eye with care. Your cute horse drawing is finished. Now color it with your favourite crayons to see the magic!
