How to Draw Mandala Art for Kids – Easy Step-by-Step Pattern Tutorial

Discover the joy of creating beautiful circular patterns as kids follow simple steps to design their own mandala drawing.

Step 1: Draw the centre ring: Draw a small circle, then a slightly bigger circle around it, and split the ring into small equal sections (like little tiles).

Step 2: Add the first petals: Draw 8 small teardrop-shaped petals around the ring, evenly spaced.

Step 3: Add a bigger petal layer: Between and around those petals, draw a larger set of pointed petals so the flower looks fuller.

Step 4: Add small scallops behind: In the gaps around the outside, draw small curved “bumps” (half-circle scallops) peeking out from behind the petals.

Step 5: Add a bigger scallop layer: Draw larger rounded scallops all the way around, making a second, wider wavy outline.

Step 6: Finish with an outer circle: Draw one big circle around everything to frame the mandala.

Step 7: Add a second outer border: Draw one more large circle around the mandala, just outside the current border.

Step 8: Draw small outside bumps: Add small half-circle bumps around the outside of the border, evenly spaced.

Step 9: Add tiny petals on each bump: On every bump, draw a little fan of small teardrop petals (like mini flower petals) sticking outwards.

Step 10: Draw big rounded lobes: Around each petal-fan section, draw a large rounded arch to form big “petal” lobes around the mandala.

Step 11: Outline the full scalloped edge: Connect and smooth those big lobes with one continuous outer outline, making a neat scalloped border.

Step 12: Add decorative dots: Inside each big lobe, draw small dots along the inner curve to decorate the border.

Step 13: Add pointed outer petals: In the gaps between the big rounded lobes, draw large pointed petals (triangle/leaf shapes) sticking outwards.

Step 14: Decorate the pointed petals: Inside each pointed petal, draw a small curved line and add two small circles along it.

Step 15: Finish the pattern: Trace and darken the full outline neatly, keeping all the shapes clean and even to complete the mandala.

How to Draw a Mandala- Fun, Easy, and Magical!

Have you ever seen a beautiful circle filled with tiny shapes that repeat endlessly? That is called a mandala. Mandalas look complex, but they are actually easy to create. Today, let’s explore how to draw a mandala in a way that feels fun, calm, and exciting for kids of all ages. You can also explore how to draw doodle art to practice creating simple patterns and creative designs.

A mandala is a type of art made with circles and patterns. The word “mandala” means circle. Many cultures use mandalas to show balance, peace, and harmony. But for kids, it’s even better- it’s like drawing a pattern puzzle inside a big circle!

Why Are Mandalas So Fun to Draw?

Mandalas are made from repeating shapes. When you repeat shapes, your brain feels happy and calm. That’s why many people call it relaxing art. Some even create a healing mandala to feel peaceful.

The best part? You don’t have to be a perfect artist. If you can draw a circle, a line, or a petal, you can learn how to draw a mandala easily.

How to Draw a Mandala Easy – Start Simple

If you are wondering how to draw a simple mandala, begin with a circle. Inside the circle, draw another smaller circle. Then add shapes like:

  • Petals
  • Dots
  • Small triangles
  • Curved lines

Repeat each shape around the circle. That’s it! You are already learning to draw mandala patterns.

For younger kids (ages 3–6), keep the shapes big and bold. For older kids, try adding more details. This is how you slowly learn how to draw a mandala step by step without feeling confused.

Try a Flower Mandala!

Flowers are perfect for mandalas. If you want to know how to draw a flower mandala, start with a circle in the centre. Then draw petals around it. Add another layer of petals outside. Keep repeating. You can also explore flower coloring pages to enjoy beautiful floral patterns while practicing creativity.

Did you know? Many real flowers in nature grow in circular patterns. That’s why a mandala design often looks like a flower.

Older kids can try to draw a flower out of a mandala. This design uses many overlapping circles. It looks tricky, but when done step by step, it becomes easier than you think!
