Create your own world of adventure with Monkey Pen and learn how to draw a map step by step using winding paths, simple landmarks, and imaginative details.
Step 1: First, start with a small oval with a rounded portion inside.

Step 2: Extend two long curved lines below the oval.

Step 3: From the left curved line, make a wavy pattern with jagged edges.

Step 4: Continue the wavy pattern.

Step 5: Make another oval at the end of the wavy line and extend it beneath with a long vertical line.

Step 6: Draw a curvy line with sharp points from the other end of the oval.

Step 7: Show the rolled portion of the map below on the right side, like a coil following a wavy line.

Step 8: Continue the wavy line and create a coiled shape on the left end of the map.

Step 9: Draw a small compass rose on the top right of the map.

Step 10: Add directions inside the compass. Then draw a small circle surrounding the compass and mark the directions “N”, “E”, “S”, and “W”.

Step 11: Beside the compass rose, add three small, pointed shapes like a triangle for the mountains.

Step 12: Draw tiny wavy lines to indicate the grass and natural vegetation within the mountains.

Step 13: Add two small tree trunks just beneath the compass rose.

Step 14: Draw the leaves on both the trees in cloud-like shapes. Then show the grass on the ground surface with a wavy line made of tiny curves.

Step 15: Just near the mountains, include a treasure chest in a 3D rectangular shape.

Step 16: Make the outer lid of the treasure chest.

Step 17: Add decorative details on the treasure chest.

Step 18: Show the lustre of the treasure chest using short lines around the box.

Step 19: Draw a long wavy line made of dashed lines down toward the bottom right. Then add an "X" shape at the end of the line.

Step 20: On the bottom left, sketch the palm leaves.

Step 21: Make the tree trunks, other bushes, and the ground line beneath the tree.

Step 22: Above the tree, draw two long wavy lines, one beside the other, to show the river.

Step 23: Under the tree ground, draw a few short wavy lines that indicate the river water movement.

Step 24: A map drawing is complete.
