How to Draw a Pirate Ship – Simple Step-by-Step Ship Drawing for Kids

Set sail for an exciting creative adventure with this seafaring art project. By following drawing tutorials step by step, kids can easily map out the large sails and sturdy wooden hull of a historic vessel. This lesson serves as an excellent foundation before moving on to other deep-sea vehicles, such as learning how to draw submarine designs. Every stage breaks down the nautical details into simple pieces, allowing young illustrators to create their own high-seas scenes with confidence.

Set sail on an artistic adventure as Monkey Pen teaches you how to draw a pirate ship step by step using simple shapes and exciting details.

Step 1: Draw a small slanting line, and another shorter line parallel to the first one at its lower side. Both lines start from a tiny round shape at the front.

Step 2: Extend the lower slanting line that runs downwards to form the front portion of the ship.

Step 3: Draw another curved line for the upper side of the ship that extends towards the left.

Step 4: Create two lines at the front of the boat inside its outline, which curve at the top to create your bow boat.

Step 5: Extend the upper part of the vessel toward the backside and then include a small rectangular area there.

Step 6: Draw a curving line beneath the rectangle to the back of the ship.

Step 7: Create waves using wavy lines under the ship, as in the image.

Step 8: Draw waves on and around the sides of the boat.

Step 9: Draw a line parallel to the upper side of the ship.

Step 10: Draw the backside of the ship just as shown in the image.

Step 11: Create an additional outer line to shape the cabin that you have just drawn.

Step 12: Extend the cabin of the ship as shown in the picture.

Step 13: Add the roof to the cabin.

Step 14: Create a few vertical lines under the roof to show detailing.

Step 15: Add two windows in the cabin.

Step 16: Create outer lines around the windows to form the frames.

Step 17: Make four circles on the side of the vessel.

Step 18: Add smaller circles within the big circles you have just drawn.

Step 19: Draw a tiny hook shape onto the front end of your vessel.

Step 20: Add an anchor that hangs on the hook.

Step 21: Create decorative, slightly curved stripes on the side of the ship.

Step 22: Draw two long straight lines to form the main sail.

Step 23: Join the sail's tops by drawing straight horizontal lines.

Step 24: Create a tiny sail just above the mast.

Step 25: Install an observation basket on the sail's top.

Step 26: Sketch curving details on the basket.

Step 27: The tall mast is drawn that runs through the sails as well as the basket.

Step 28: Make a new sail just behind the first one you have already drawn.

Step 29: Attach the mast to the back of the sail.

Step 30: Draw the rope lines that connect the sails to the masts.

Step 31: Add vertical stripes to the sails as shown in the image.

Step 32: Draw a waving pirate flag high on the mast.

Step 33: Draw a skull and crossbones design in the flag.

Step 34: Create a bigger skull and crossbones on the main sail.

Step 35: Create additional wavelets around the vessel.

Step 36: Your drawing of the pirate ship is completed. Now try coloring it!
