How to Draw a Spider: Meet the Construction Workers of the Backyard
Have you ever examined a spider's web on a clear, sunny day? The dewdrops make the web shimmer and shine, as though a diamond necklace were draped across it. Spiders may be tiny, but they are exceptional builders!
Learning how to draw a spider is the beginning of a journey to discover a very clever and highly intriguing creature. So, take out a pencil, your creative side, and let's go on a drawing adventure of spiders!
Why are spiders so fascinating?
Spiders are extremely hardy little creatures and can be found almost anywhere on planet Earth. Some live in the woods, some in your garden, and some even with humans!
Spiders are one of the few animals that seem to defy the rule of 6, making them the most interesting. Spiders belong to the arachnid class because they have 8 legs, which is arguably more than the 6 legs of other insects. Yet arachnids can spin silk that is stronger than the strongest thread made by humans!
Each web is a masterpiece created by a small artist. Spider webs aren't just homes; they are highly elaborate traps to catch their prey.
Why are spider drawings so popular?
Children often draw spiders first because their bodies are simpler than those of most animals. Most of the body's shapes, which make up a spider, are easily recognisable to children.
A spider's body consists of;
- one round body,
- 8 long legs,
- huge comic eyes (in spider drawings),
- and a web (beautiful and intricate) that is usually drawn in the background.
All of these features make it easy to understand why so many children consider spiders one of their favourite animals to draw. Young artists can use their creativity to design a friendly spider, a silly spider, or even a superhero spider.
Can a Spider Become a Story Character?
Of course it can!
A spider drawing does not have to remain a drawing. Once the spider is on paper, it can be a story character and create some adventures for itself.
Your spider can build the largest web in the garden. It can help the other insects determine their way home. Your spider can even be adventurous and travel through a magical forest made of silver webs.
Drawing and designing a story character can be really fun. Naming and characterising your spiders can be a thrilling journey. Drawing and storytelling create a masterpiece.
