How to Draw a Sugar Skull – Decorative Skull Drawing for Kids

Floral patterns and colourful shapes turn this sugar skull drawing into a creative and exciting art activity.

Step 1: Draw a half circle, leaving the bottom portion free.

Step 2: Make a skull outline with a curved L shape followed by a tiny vertical line on both sides of the open ends of the circle.

Step 3: Just ahead from the tiny lines on each side, make the lower portion of a hexagon with a rounded base.

Step 4: Add big, round eyes for the skull.

Step 5: Arrange a series of little ‘U’s on the upper row and lower row separated by almost a straight line, to show the tooth.

Step 6: Define each tooth with the help of small vertical lines and a long horizontal line.

Step 7: Add a narrow, upside-down heart for the nose.

Step 8: Give long, curved eyebrows, for the skull. This shape resembles a hook.

Step 9: Draw a small heart at the centre of the forehead, between the eyebrows.

Step 10: Place small circles at distant points, on the forehead to look like a triangle.

Step 11: Sketch big flowers keeping the circles as the centre for each flower.

Step 12: Around the flower on the central forehead, draw few tiny circles and make needle shaped designs above each eyebrow, on either side of the heart.

Step 13: Place tiny ‘U’s surrounding each eye.

Step 14: Now draw tiny circles on the space between the eyes, on the sides of each eye, and below the heart-shaped nose.

Step 15: Within the space left ahead and behind the nose, add two little hearts, a few raindrop shapes and a few narrow and wide upside-down U’s.

Step 16: On the chin, draw a flower with a ‘U’-shaped base and tear drop-shaped petals.

Step 17: Now add details to the flowers on the forehead using tiny stripes surrounding the round base of each flower. Also make coiled designs on both sides of the flower that is located on the chin.

Step 18: A decorative sugar skull art is now finished.
