How to Draw a Swan – Easy Step-by-Step Bird Drawing for Kids

A long graceful neck, elegant wings, and a smooth body make the swan a beautiful bird for young artists to draw. Children can follow the easy step-by-step images to create the swan one stage at a time, turning simple shapes into a recognisable bird with confidence. If young artists enjoy water birds, they can also learn how to draw goose projects with our how to draw for kids tutorials. The printable PDF worksheet provides extra practice while helping develop creativity, observation skills, fine motor control, and drawing confidence through an enjoyable nature-themed activity.

Bring elegance to your sketchbook with Monkey Pen and learn how to draw a swan step by step using a curved neck, soft body shapes, and simple feather details.

Step 1: Draw a small, narrow “U” shaped beak.

Step 2: Add a small portion above the beak, a line down the beak and a tiny dash inside the beak.

Step 3: A round head is added along with a tiny hook shape for the back of the neck.

Step 4: Behind the beak, add a small curve to define the head.

Step 5: Create a long curve beneath the lower head for the front neckline.

Step 6: Continue the curve down the neck horizontally to create the lower bodyline.

Step 7: Behind the neck, draw two short curves one above the other.

Step 8: Add few rounded feather patterns in a column within the wing.

Step 9: Continue adding the feathers.

Step 10: A few more feathers are added.

Step 11: Behind the wing, include a round patch of feathers.

Step 12: A few pointed tail feathers are added behind the patch to create the tail feather.

Step 13: A column of rounded feathers is added inside the wing.

Step 14: Include another column of feathers behind.

Step 15: Now draw few horizontal feather patterns inside the patch.

Step 16: Draw a small round eye and an eyebrow.

Step 17: Shade the eye leaving a small space and a tiny portion free for the highlight.

Step 18: Draw wavy lines underneath the swan to show the water ripples.

Step 19: Add a few more ripples surrounding this.

Step 20: You have drawn a graceful swan.
