How to Draw a Whale Shark Step-by-step – Simple Ocean Animal Drawing for Kids

This whale shark drawing lesson turns the ocean’s gentle giant into a calm, step-by-step sketch that feels surprisingly simple to build. Learners start with basic flowing shapes and gradually add fins, spots, and facial details through clear visual stages that make the process easy to follow. It’s especially enjoyable for kids and beginners who like seeing each part appear one step at a time. With included step-by-step images and a printable PDF worksheet, you can pause, retrace, and practice until the whale shark feels smooth and natural on the page.

Gentle giants of the sea become easy to sketch as kids draw a whale shark with spots and flowing shapes.

Step 1: Draw a long, gently curving line that runs along the upper part of the whale's back.

Step 2: Draw the round front of the head and draw a curve under the belly for the back.

Step 3: Draw a long fin beneath the body, pointing outwards.

Step 4: Attach the dorsal fin that is tall over the whale shark's rear.

Step 5: Continue the body line to the tail, maintaining an even slope.

Step 6: Draw a large forked tail towards the bottom of the body.

Step 7: Create a mouth line inside the face area of the shark that curves near the back of the head.

Step 8: Make tiny lines just below the mouth to reveal the whale shark's largemouth details.

Step 9: Create an angled gill line inside the body of the shark, towards its middle portion.

Step 10: Draw tiny fins at the back of the body close to the tail.

Step 11: Create several vertical lines that curve across the body, forming body parts.

Step 12: Create diagonal lines in the body towards the tail. This will create an elegant pattern.

Step 13: Make tiny spots in the head portion of the whale shark's body.

Step 14: Keep adding spots to the back and middle of the back.

Step 15: Draw spot marks in the tail.

Step 16: Put places on the upper fin and the larger side fin.

Step 17: Create a tiny eye inside the head.

Step 18: Verify the final outline of the drawing of a whale shark. Now color the drawing to make it more beautiful.
