How to Draw a Ziggurat – Step-by-Step Ancient Building Drawing for Kids
Travel back to ancient times with Monkey Pen and learn how to draw a ziggurat step by step using simple layers and easy architectural shapes.
Step 1: Draw an angled strip to begin the base of the ziggurat.

Step 2: Draw three sloping sides above the strip to form the first large level as shown in the image.

Step 3: Add a narrow rim around the top of the first level.

Step 4: Draw a long platform extending from the front-right side.

Step 5: Add a tall, sloping wall along the left side of the staircase.

Step 6: Draw the sloped right edge of the staircase with a line of tiny curves and complete its lower end as in the image.

Step 7: Add the sloping wall on the right side of the staircase.

Step 8: Draw many horizontal lines between the walls to create the steps.

Step 9: Draw a raised block behind the right side of the staircase.

Step 10: Add raised blocks on the left and right sides to form the second level.

Step 11: Draw a tall entrance structure at the top of the main staircase.

Step 12: Add the doorway, columns and top edge of the entrance.

Step 13: Draw another raised level on the upper-left side.

Step 14: Add a smaller level above it.

Step 15: Draw two sloping rails for an upper staircase.

Step 16: Add horizontal lines between the rails to create the upper steps.

Step 17: Draw more raised blocks on the upper-right side.

Step 18: Add a small temple building at the very top.

Step 19: Draw a row of square notches along the temple roof.

Step 20: Add a row of small circles beneath the roof.

Step 21: Draw a rectangular doorway on the front of the top temple.

Step 22: Add evenly spaced vertical panel lines across the left side of the lowest level.

Step 23: Draw vertical panel lines across the front and right sides of the lowest level.

Step 24: Add vertical panel lines across the next level.

Step 25: Draw vertical panel lines across the middle level.

Step 26: Add vertical panel lines across the upper level.

Step 27: Draw vertical panel lines around the top portion.

Step 28: Add small rectangular windows to the different levels.

Step 29: Erase any unnecessary lines and colour your ziggurat to complete the drawing.
