One morning, Lily the little lamb walked in the green meadow.

Tap… tap… tap…

Mama Sheep was nearby.

“Stay near me, Lily,” Mama said.

“I will,” said Lily.

Just then—

flap… flap…

Pretty butterflies flew by.

“Oh! So pretty!” said Lily.

She followed them.

Step… step…

Past flowers…
past a rock…
past a small tree…

The butterflies danced.

Up… down… round and round!

Lily laughed and ran a little.

Tap-tap! Tap-tap!

Then—

splash!

Lily stepped in a tiny puddle.

“Cold!” she giggled.

She kept walking.

Step… step…

She saw tall grass.

Swoosh… swoosh…

She walked through it.

“It tickles!” she laughed.

Then—

chirp! chirp!

A little bird flew up from the ground.

“Oh!” Lily jumped.

The butterflies flew away.

Flap… flap…

Lily stopped.

She looked around.

“Oh…” she said softly.

“Where is Mama?”

The meadow looked big.

Everything looked the same.

Lily felt a little scared.

“Mama… mama…” she called.

No answer.

Then she remembered.

“Mama said to stay near,” she whispered.

Lily took a deep breath.

“I will stay here,” she said.

She stood still.

She waited quietly.

Soon, mama came searching Lily.

“Lily?” called Mama Sheep.

Lily turned her head.

“Mama!” she cried.

Mama Sheep walked closer.

“I came to find you,” she said gently.

Lily ran to her and nuzzled close.

“I followed the butterflies,” she said.

Mama smiled kindly.

“They are pretty,” she said, “but you must stay close.”

Lily nodded.

They walked home together.

Step… step… step…

Lily stayed close to Mama.

As they walked, a butterfly flew by again.

Flap… flap…

Lily smiled—

but this time, she stayed right beside Mama.

Moral: Stay close to those who care for you—they keep you safe.
