Spring filled the forest with green leaves, colourful flowers, and cheerful birdsong.

One morning, Old Owl gathered the birds beneath the tallest oak tree.

“I have exciting news!” he announced. “We’re holding a Nest Contest. The most beautiful nest will win the Golden Feather!”

The birds chirped excitedly.

"I'll build the biggest nest!" said Crow.

"I'll decorate mine with colourful flowers," sang Bluebird.

"I'll use soft feathers and shiny shells," said Magpie.

Everyone hurried away to begin building.

Only one tiny bird stayed behind.

Her name was Lily. She was the smallest bird in the forest.

Lily gathered soft grass, tiny twigs, and warm feathers to build a small nest on a low branch.

It had no bright decorations, but it was warm, safe, and cosy.

“Your nest is too plain. You’ll never win,” said Bluebird.

Lily smiled. “I think it’s just right.”

The next afternoon, dark clouds rolled across the sky.

 Strong winds shook the trees.

 Rain poured from the sky.

Many birds hurried back to protect their beautiful nests.

 The storm lasted all night.

The next morning, sunshine returned.

The birds flew out to check their nests.

 Some had lost flowers.

 Others had lost shiny decorations.

Twigs and leaves lay scattered everywhere.

As Lily looked around, she heard a tiny cry.

A little robin sat beneath a bush.

One of its wings was hurt.

The storm had blown its nest from the tree.

"I have nowhere to sleep," whispered the robin sadly.

Without thinking twice, Lily smiled warmly.

"You can stay with me."

"But my nest is small," said the robin.

Lily gently moved to one side.

"I left a little extra space."

"I always thought someone might need it someday."

The robin's eyes filled with happiness.

 "Thank you."

For many days, Lily cared for her new friend.

 She shared food.

 She kept the nest warm.

She told cheerful stories until the robin's wing became strong again.

Soon it was time for the Nest Contest.

Old Owl visited every nest carefully.

 Some were colourful.

 Some were shiny.

 Some were very large.

Then he reached Lily's little nest.

 He smiled quietly.

Inside sat Lily and the robin, happily side by side.

Old Owl looked at all the birds.

 "I have chosen the winner."

 Everyone waited excitedly.

"The Golden Feather goes to Lily."

The birds looked surprised.

"But her nest is so simple!" one bird exclaimed.

 Old Owl nodded.

"Perhaps."

"But the greatest nest is not the one with the prettiest decorations."

"It is the one with the biggest heart."

 The whole forest became quiet.

Then every bird began clapping their wings.

Lily blushed with a happy smile.

The robin gave her a gentle hug.

From that day on, the birds-built nests that were not only beautiful but also welcoming.

Some even left a little extra space, just in case someone needed a safe place to stay.

And every spring, whenever the Nest Contest returned, the birds remembered that kindness was the finest thing anyone could ever build.

Moral: A caring heart is more valuable than winning.
