One morning, a little child named Leo sat beside his mother.
Mama smiled.
“Leo,” she said, shall we play a shape game?”
Leo’s eyes lit up.
“A game?” he asked.
“Yes! I like games!”
Mama picked up a ball.
“Look at this,” she said.
Leo touched it.
“It is round,” Mama said.
“It can roll.”
She rolled it gently.
Roll… roll…
Leo giggled.
“It’s moving!” he said.
“This shape is called a circle,” Mama said.
“Circle,” Leo repeated.
“Circle rolls!”
Mama clapped softly.
“Yes, it does.”
Then Mama pointed to the window.
“Leo, look here,” she said.
Leo stood up and looked.
“It has four sides,” Mama said.
“All sides are the same.”
Leo touched the corners.
“One… two… three… four!” he counted.
“This is a square,” Mama said.
“Square,” Leo said slowly.
“Does it roll?” he asked.
Mama smiled.
“No, it stays still.”
Leo laughed.
“Square sleeps!”
Mama laughed too.
Next, Mama brought a slice of toast.
It was cut into a triangle.
“Look at your snack,” she said.
Leo picked it up.
“It has three sides,” Mama said.
Leo counted.
“One… two… three!”
“Triangle!” he said loudly.
Mama nodded.
“Yes! Triangle.”
Leo took a small bite.
“Yummy triangle!” he giggled.
Mama then showed him a book.
“Now look at this,” she said.
“It has four sides, but not all the same.”
Leo looked closely.
“It is long,” he said.
“Yes,” Mama said.
“This is called a rectangle.”
“Rectangle,” Leo repeated.
“Rectangle does not roll,” he said.
Mama smiled.
“You are right!”
Leo looked around the room.
He pointed at the clock.
“Circle!” he said.
Then the door.
“Rectangle!”
Then the toast.
“Triangle!”
Mama clapped happily.
“Leo, you found so many shapes!”
Leo smiled wide.
“Shapes are everywhere!” he said.
Mama hugged him gently.
“Yes,” she said softly.
“And you are learning every day.”
Leo looked around once more.
“Circle… square… triangle… rectangle…” he whispered.
“I like shapes,” he said.
