At the edge of a quiet little village stood a lovely old library with tall wooden shelves, colourful storybooks, and soft reading chairs by the windows.
Every afternoon, children came to read, laugh, and discover wonderful adventures inside its books.
But as the months passed, fewer children visited.
The library became quieter.
One morning, Mrs Maple opened her favourite fairy tale.
“Oh dear!” she gasped. A sentence had vanished.
Each day, more words disappeared until books across the library were filled with empty spaces.
The whole village was puzzled, but one child refused to give up.
Her name was Lily.
Lily loved books more than anything.
She visited the library after school every day, hoping to solve the mystery.
One evening, she stayed a little longer than usual.
She carefully searched the shelves and wondered where all the missing words have gone.
As the sun set, tiny glowing lights appeared between the bookshelves.
Lily looked closer. They resembled colourful fireflies, but each had tiny letter-shaped wings.
They fluttered softly, glowing blue, gold, pink, and green.
“What are you?” Lily whispered.
A sad little creature landed on her hand.
“We are the lost words,” it squeaked. “When stories are left unread, we grow lonely and leave our books to hide in quiet corners.”
Hundreds of glowing words hid behind shelves, under tables, and inside old baskets.
Some were sleepy, frightened, or barely glowing.
“Can I help you return?” Lily asked.
“Yes,” said the little word. “Words grow strong when someone reads them aloud.”
Lily hurried home and told her friends everything.
At first, they laughed.
"Glowing words?" Ben giggled.
But Lily's excited face made them curious.
The next afternoon, the children gathered at the library and chose their books.
Lily began reading aloud.
“Once upon a time...”
Golden lights floated from the shelves as the lost words returned to the pages. Missing sentences reappeared, and the books became whole.
“It worked!” Ben cheered.
Soon, everyone was reading funny stories, adventures, and animal tales.
The tiny glowing words danced happily through the air before gently settling back into their books.
With every story that was shared, the library became brighter.
The shelves seemed to smile.
The windows sparkled.
Even the old clock ticked a little more cheerfully.
From that day on, the children started a special Story Hour every evening.
They invited younger children, parents, grandparents, and neighbours to listen.
The library was never silent again.
The glowing words no longer hid in dusty corners.
Moral: Stories become alive when they are read and shared.
