One bright morning, a little monkey was jumping from tree to tree.
Hop! Hop!
Swing! Swing!
He scratched his head…
made silly faces…
and giggled all by himself.
Suddenly— boing!
Something red bounced near his feet.
“Ooooh! What’s this?” the monkey said.
It was a shiny red ball!
“Yay! A new toy!” he cheered.
He pushed it—
roll… roll…
He tapped it—
boing! boing!
He tried to sit on it…
Whoops! He slipped and tumbled!
“Wheee!” he laughed.
Just then, a small deer came through the trees.
She stopped and looked.
Her eyes grew wide.
“Oh!” she said.
“That looks like my red ball.”
The monkey blinked.
“Your ball?” he asked.
The deer nodded.
“Yes… I was playing, and it rolled away.
I’ve been looking for it.”
The monkey looked at the ball…
then at the deer.
He held it close for a moment.
“I like this ball,” he thought.
Then he saw the deer’s hopeful face.
“I don’t want her to feel sad,” he thought.
The monkey smiled softly.
“Is this your ball?” he asked.
“Yes!” the deer said happily.
Slowly, the monkey rolled the ball to her.
“Here you go,” he said.
“My ball!” the deer jumped with joy.
“Thank you, my friend!”
Then she smiled and said,
“Let’s play together!”
Soon—
boing! boing!
giggle! giggle!
They played happily in the forest.
