Ben was a cheerful six-year-old who collected little treasures.
They weren’t shiny or valuable—just small things that made him smile.
A smooth pebble, a red button, a funny-shaped leaf and a blue marble.
He kept them in a wooden box beside his bed.
Each treasure had a story.
One Saturday, Ben wanted to show Grandpa his favourite blue marble.
But when he opened the box, it was gone.
He searched under the bed, inside his toy basket, behind the curtains and even in his shoes.
“I’ve lost it,” Ben sighed.
“Sometimes lost things have adventures of their own,” Grandpa said gently.
Ben wasn’t sure what he meant.
That afternoon, Ben visited the old town library.
Behind a tall bookshelf, he noticed a tiny wooden door he had never seen before.
Above it hung a sign: "The Museum of Lost Things"
“A museum?” Ben whispered, slowly opening the door.
Inside was the most wonderful place Ben had ever seen.
Tall wooden shelves were filled with lost treasures—mittens, ribbons, toy cars, buttons, feathers, puzzle pieces, crayons and teddy bears.
Every shelf sparkled with memories.
An old lady with round glasses smiled kindly.
“Welcome. I’m the museum keeper.”
Ben looked around in wonder.
“Are these everyone’s lost things?”
“Yes,” she replied.
“But why are they here?” he asked.
“Every lost thing has a story,” the keeper said.
She showed Ben a tiny red shoe worn by a girl learning to jump, a teddy hugged every night, and a kite that once flew higher than expected.
Ben listened quietly.
They weren’t just old things. They were happy memories.
Then Ben spotted his little blue marble on a nearby shelf.
“I found it!” he cried, running towards it.
“You certainly did,” the keeper smiled.
Ben reached for the marble, then stopped.
Beside it was a small card.
The card read:
“Ben rolled this marble with Grandpa under the mango tree. They laughed until sunset.”
Ben smiled, remembering that happy afternoon.
The marble wasn’t special because it was blue, but because of the memory it held.
“Would you like to take it home?” the keeper asked.
Ben thought for a moment, then nodded.
“Yes. But the real treasure isn’t the marble—it’s the happy day I remember.”
The keeper’s eyes twinkled.
“You’ve learnt the museum’s secret.”
As Ben walked home, he looked at the little marble in his hand.
It felt the same.
But somehow...
It meant even more.
That evening, Ben returned the marble to his wooden box with a note:
“Grandpa and I laughed together under the mango tree.”
From then on, he wrote a memory for every treasure he found.
Because even if a treasure was lost, its memory would remain in his heart.
A few days later, Ben and Grandpa sat beneath the mango tree, rolling the blue marble across the grass and laughing.
Before leaving, Ben tucked a tiny leaf into his pocket.
“Another treasure?” Grandpa asked.
Ben nodded. “Yes—and another happy memory.”
