Mr. Ladd, the Principal of the Ladders of Learning School, was proud of the teachers and students.
The teachers did an excellent job teaching, and with his help, they created a positive learning environment where the children wanted to learn.
His school became the most famous in the area.

Each year, Mr. Ladd organised a ‘Ladders of Learning’ fair for the entire community.
It was always so much fun. It had something for everyone.
Merry-Go-Rounds, Balloon Popping, Roller Coasters, Giant Swings, and even a Haunted House.
Mr. Ladd did it for the community event, but it was the main fund-raising event to support the Ladders of Learning school.

At this Fair, Mr. Ladd made an announcement that saddened everyone.
He told the community that he was retiring, but not to worry.

Then, as a young woman walked up to the microphone, Mr. Ladd said, “I would like to introduce you to Ms. Patty. She is very qualified to run the school.”
With that, Mr. Ladd turned the activities over to Ms. Patty.

Ms. Patty talked with the people and then invited them all to the Big-Top Tent to celebrate Mr. Ladd’s retirement.

Over the following weeks, the community admired Ms. Patty and the work she was doing at the Ladders of Learning School.
They waited for the community meeting to talk about the FAIR, and how much money was raised for the school.

At the meeting, Ms. Patty brought out all the money that was raised for the School, and then... a hush fell over the crowd.
Everything stopped, and Ms. Patty was surprised. She didn't know what was happening.

A moment later, she heard a man’s voice from behind.
The man said in a gruff tone, “Don't turn around!
Tell the crowd to put their money on the stage.”

Ms. Patty didn't want anyone to get hurt, so she did as the robber said.
The crowd put everything into a big basket and brought it all to the robber, who was now opening several pillowcases to hold all the money.

“If you know what's good for you, you won't try to stop or follow me,” the robber said.
Then he ran out and vanished.

Ms. Patty asked if everyone was alright and told them to go home and not to worry.
Everything will be alright. She said, “He may have the money, but we are all safe. That is what is important.”

The police were called, and they questioned Ms. Patty and many people from the fair.
It wasn't long before they captured the thief and brought him to the Police Station.

Ms. Patty had to go to the Police Station to identify the robber.
When she was there, she talked with him and realised he wasn't a bad person. Just one who was in need, and couldn't find work.

Ms. Patty explained to the robber that she understood why he did it, but it was also the wrong thing to do.
Ms. Patty said, “I forgive you for the bad thing you did, and I am sure all the other people do too.
No one was hurt, and all the money has been returned.
I do hope you have learned from this.”
The Police thanked Ms. Patty, and an Officer said, “Okay robber, it is off to jail for you.”
Ms. Patty said, “Wait! We all have forgiven this man.
I need help at the Ladders of Learning School.
If I give this man a job, will you release him and not put him in jail?”
The Police talked to the robber and decided that since everything was returned and he was forgiven for what he had done, they would release him to work with Ms. Patty.
It wasn't long before he became one of the best workers at the school.
In fact, after some time, he became a Ladders of Learning teacher.
His first class was Learning to Forgive.
“Remember – Sometimes it is best to forgive, be kind to others, and help them become better.”
