One sunny day, a little monkey was playing in the forest.

Jump… jump…

swing… swing…

Just then, he saw a mango tree.

A big yellow mango hung on a low branch.

“Oh!” said the monkey.

“A mango!”

He reached up and plucked it.

He took a bite.

Juicy… sweet…

“Mmm! So yummy!” he smiled.

As he ate, he looked up.

High above…

there were many more mangoes!

Big… bright… and golden.

But they were far away…

on thin branches…

at the very top.

“Wow!” said the monkey.

“So many mangoes!”

He looked at the one in his hand.

Then at the ones above.

“I want those!” he said.

He threw the mango down.

Plop!

“I will get more,” he said.

He climbed the tree.

Up… up…

He reached the higher branches.

But they were thin.

They bent and shook.

Creak… creak…

The mangoes were too far to reach.

He stretched his arm.

Up… up…

But—

slip!

He almost fell.

“Oh!” he said, holding tight.

He climbed down slowly.

“I can’t reach them,” he said softly.

Then he remembered his mango.

“My sweet mango!”

He looked on the ground.

Oh no…

It was squashed and spoiled.

The monkey felt sad.

“I had a good mango,” he said.

“I should have eaten it.”

He sat quietly for a moment.

Then he said,

“I will be happy with what I have.”

Next time, he would not throw it away.

And he walked back slowly…

a little wiser than before.

Moral: Be happy with what you have—don’t lose it while wanting more.
