How to Draw a Mosquito – Easy Insect Drawing Activity for Kids

This mosquito drawing lesson takes a tiny, often annoying insect and turns it into a surprisingly simple step-by-step sketching activity. You start with basic shapes to form the head and slender body, then gradually add the long legs, wings, and pointed proboscis in clear visual stages that make even the finer details easy to follow. Each step builds naturally, so beginners can focus on structure without feeling overwhelmed by the insect’s complexity. It also includes downloadable PDF worksheets you can print and practice repeatedly, helping kids refine proportions and get comfortable drawing delicate, thin forms.

Step 1: First draw the mouth that looks like a sharp needle.

Step 2: Then draw its wide, rounded head above.

Step 3: Draw thin, narrow antennae placed on the upper head.

Step 4: Create its middle part of the body, called the thorax, with a curved line.

Step 5: Behind the thorax, add a long oval for the left wing.

Step 6: Below it, include its transparent wing that is long and slender.

Step 7: Show the tail at the back with a half oval.

Step 8: Draw the front leg that is long and narrow.

Step 9: Then add the second leg beside it.

Step 10: Include the third leg having a sharp bend.

Step 11: Complete the thorax and abdomen with tiny lines.

Step 12: Add a foreleg that lies near the head, just below the thorax region.

Step 13: Draw a short leg near to it.

Step 14: Then create another short leg at the back.

Step 15: Add another transparent wing on the right side, which is a medium oval.

Step 16: Show vein-like patterns for the left wing.

Step 17: Similarly, provide patterns for the right-side wing too.

Step 18: Draw tiny stripes just below the head and two dots above the pointed mouth. Also don’t forget to add patterns for the wing that is located just beside the left wing.

Step 19: Add horizontal stripes within the slender body and tail.

Step 20: Draw big circles for eyes.

Step 21: Shade the eyes inside to show the pupil, leaving the bottom corners free
