How to Draw a Prairie Dog – Easy Small Animal Sketch for Kids

This prairie dog drawing lesson makes even detailed animal sketching feel approachable by breaking it into clear, friendly steps. You begin with simple guiding shapes and gradually build the prairie dog’s rounded body, expressive face, tiny paws, and textured fur in a way that never feels overwhelming. How to draw a prairie dog: step-by-step drawing instructions 

Step 1: Create the top of your prairie dog’s head by using the smaller ear and turn it towards the right. 

Step 2: Then you should add the other head and bend it to the left. 

Step 3: Make the right side of the neck and the upper part of the body with more frenzied line zigzags. 

Step 4: Continue drawing the back and rounded part of the body, the bottom part of the body, and one big foot in the back. 

Step 5: Draw your right arm towards the chest. 

Step 6: Include your chest and the left arm in the front of the prairie dog’s body. 

Step 7: The right-hand side of the body is drawn over the body. then the left foot is placed onto the earth. 

Step 8: The tail is the part which runs to the left. 

Step 9: Include face-related particulars such as the nose, mouth, whiskers or ears. Also, add curving lines that go beyond the eyes. 

Step 10: Draw the claws that are smaller on both paws of both feet, the front and the back. The tail's tip can be drawn. 

Step 11: Make thin, furry lines along the sides of the face, belly and the body. 

Step 12: Create two circular shapes big enough to accommodate the eyes. 

Step 13: Add the smaller circles in the eyes to create pupils and darken them also. 

Step 14: Wow! you have completed the drawing of the cute prairie dog. Color it with your favourite crayons and enjoy.
