How to Draw a Rat – Easy Step-by-Step Small Animal Drawing for Kids
Here is a step-by-step drawing lesson on how to draw a rat from Monkey Pen.
Step 1: Draw the head, with small spikes coming out of it.

Step 2: Attach the two ears, one on the left and one on the right using a gentle and circular form.

Step 3: Add the animal’s face and nose by drawing a curve shaped like a ‘m’ beneath the right ear.

Step 4: Draw the back of the head in a small, rounded curve.

Step 5: Extend the curve to the left side in gradual curves to finish the face of the nose.

Step 6: Draw the left inner ear, which appears like an oval with a few spikes. Don’t forget to draw a tiny line above the leg that makes its body outline.

Step 7: Draw its nose and lips using a round triangle and a tiny wide U-shaped curve.

Step 8: Draw the body behind the head with a few slightly sharp curves.

Step 9: Stretch the last curve below, rounded, to complete its back

Step 10: Draw the short front leg on the right ending with sharp nails.

Step 11: Add its left front leg too. Don’t forget to draw a tiny line above the leg that makes its body outline.

Step 12: Complete the whole left leg that looks rounded with few spikes, denoting its soft fur covered above.

Step 13: Draw its lower body or stomach by extending the curve below the left leg.

Step 14: Make its left leg that is rectangular shape with rounded corners and sharp toes.

Step 15: Define its left thigh with a wide C-shaped curve built with spikes.

Step 16: Add a long tail at the back that curls to the front in a wavy form.

Step 17: Complete the tail outline by drawing another curly line, adjacent to it.

Step 18: Add whiskers on either side of the snout, just above the mouth.

Step 19: Draw its right hind leg, which is rectangular.

Step 20: Provide tiny stripes as tail patterns for the rat.

Step 21: Define the rat’s fingers and toes by drawing tiny vertical and horizontal lines.

Step 22: Make its left eyebrow and eye with a tiny curve lying above a round shape. The right eye is not clearly visible from here, so just add a tiny curve.

Step 23: Shade the left eye, leaving the upper corner and a dot-sized space in the centre to represent its pupil.

Step 24: A cute rat drawing is over.
