Arnold Ant is always angry. He screams, and he shouts.

He makes the other ants doubt him.

Arnold Ant gets mad at the little things. A twig in the way, an army delay.

Anything can ruin Arnold Ant’s day.

One day, Arnold Ant shouted so loudly that, it scared a whole crowd.

The wind carried his angry sound from the anthill, through the beetle’s burrow, and into the wormery. Luckily, that is where Wise Worm could be found.

Wise Worm was calm and mellow. He would never shout or scream.

Instead, he would help others to stop the bellows and handle their feelings like a dream.

When Wise Worm heard Arnold Ant, he knew just what to do.

He wiggled along until the shouts became strong.

He couldn’t wait to help Arnold and the other ants feel less blue.

Arnold Ant told Wise Worm about his problem with getting mad.

He knew it was a shame, and he’d always take the blame.

He did not like to see his fellow ants feeling sad.

Wise Worm pulled out a small bottle, which was labelled ANGER MEDICINE.

He told him to take a sip just before he shouted.

“Don’t swallow it or spit it out.”

“Keep it on your tongue for 10 minutes, and it will help widen your limits.”

So that is exactly what Arnold Ant did.

Anytime he felt the anger beginning to rise, he sipped some medicine and shut his eyes.

He waited 10 minutes, keeping his anger bottled in with a tight lid.

After the time had passed, Arnold Ant realised he had no reason to shout anymore.

He used his logic to keep calm, so he did not explode like a bomb.

And when the time was up, he barely remembered why he was so angry before.

A week had passed since Arnold Ant used the medicine, and Wise Worm came to check on them all.

He was shocked when he did not walk into a brawl.

Instead, he quickly noticed how peaceful and quiet the anthill was.

Arnold Ant could not thank Wise Worm enough.

“You and your medicine have cured me,” he shouted with glee.

But Wise Worm only gave a giggly huff.

“I did not cure you, Ant; you did it yourself.”

“There was only water inside of that bottle.”

“But by keeping quiet, you calmed down oneself.”

Arnold Ant was shocked, but he knew it was true.

During those quiet minutes, he reflected on what mattered and if it was worth the speech.

He realised that anger is not always the answer, and of course, all the other ants were happy too.
