Maisie Manners is a super special girl.
She showers kindness with each and every twirl.
Maisie was known for having the best manners around,
And she tries to share her politeness with every child in town.

She would go to houses, schools, and parks to speak to everyone,
Making sure they all say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ and stay having fun.
But there were still some children who were not as nice.

On the other side of town lived a young boy.
He was named Naughty Nathan because he would never share his toys.
He never said ‘sorry’, ‘please’, or ‘thank you’.
Instead, he was unhelpful and was louder than all the animals at the zoo

Naughty Nathan made all of his siblings feel down.
His rude and unkind ways made everybody frown.
He upset all of his friends, so now he had none.
His parents were worried that this could not be undone.

But one afternoon, Nathan’s parents heard about Maisie Manners on the news.
So they gave her a call, what did they have to lose?
Of course, Maisie agreed to help and promised to come the very next day.
Nathan’s parents couldn’t wait to see what she had to say.

So the next morning, there was a knock on Naughty Nathan’s front door.
He was so surprised to see it was Maisie that his jaw nearly hit the floor.
“Why are you here? Leave right now!”
“I don’t need manners,” he shouted, lowering his brows.

But Maisie Manners didn’t leave, nor was she afraid.
She didn’t shout back, and her calmness never swayed.
“It’s ok, Nathan,” she said slowly, welcoming herself inside.
“You may be upset now, but you will feel better once you’ve tried.”

Maisie, Nathan, and his parents all sat down around the kitchen table.
They decided to demonstrate some manners, so Nathan was also able.
First, Nathan’s mother asked, “Maisie, could you pass us both an apple, please?”
“Of course,” Maisie replied, handing both parents an apple each with ease.

When Nathan’s parents took the apples, they used another manner too.
They both made sure to tell Maisie, “Thank you.”
Then Nathan’s father accidentally knocked his mother’s apple out of her hand,
But he quickly picked it up for her and said, “I’m really sorry,” without any demand.

Maisie wanted to put Nathan to the test,
But first, she needed to teach him why using manners is the best.
“Being polite costs nothing, but it shows people you really care.”
“Others will be kind back; they will want to play and share.”

“If you don’t use your manners, you may start to feel alone.”
“Others won’t want to be friends with you if you are always rude and moan.”
“Remember to be respectful, saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you,”
“Don’t forget ‘excuse me’ or ‘sorry’ with a smile and a joke too”.

“Now that we have shown you, it’s your turn to try,”
“Let’s pretend that I’ve taken your seat,” Maisie said with a mock look in her eye.
Naughty Nathan would usually shout something that was mean or bad.
But he stopped himself, as he knew that would make everyone feel sad.

Maisie reminded him, “Our friends won’t want to play if we make them upset, so we must be polite and discreet.”
Nathan thought about this for a moment, then replied, “Excuse me, Maisie, please, can I have back my seat?”
The whole family cheered, “Yay! Your manners are finally starting to show.”
“Well done,” Maisie said, “you overcame a problem without making anyone else feel low.”

The time had now come for a playdate with Nathan’s siblings and friends.
Nathan was worried, but he knew he could make amends.
It’s better to use your manners and understand the feelings of others around you.
As Nathan had learned, without them, everyone starts to feel blue.

Maisie and his parents watched Nathan as he played, shared, and laughed.
He apologised when needed and made jokes that were very daft.
Instead of Naughty, he was now called Nice Nathan by all his friends and family too.
Maisie Manners's work there was done, so off she zoomed to help someone new.
