Today is a special day. It is Lexa the Tiger’s birthday! She has a big party, and all of her friends come: Ashley the Rabbit, Baba the Monkey, Bella the Elephant, Jojo the Bear, and Sophie, Josh, and Tom!
Now the party is finished. Lexa’s friends give her many gifts. One gift is very special: it’s a backpack! Now Lexa and all of her friends have backpacks.
I have an idea!” says Lexa. "Let's go for a hike". Ashley, Baba, Bella, Jojo, Sophie, Josh, and Tom all think this is a great idea!
So everyone goes home and gets their backpacks. They put snacks and something to drink in their backpacks. They meet at the park with the pond with the lily pads and the frog on the lily pad.
They all walk through the park. Soon, they come to a fence and a gate. It is an old gate, and it is a little hard to open. But now they open the old gate, and the forest path is just beyond the gate.
This is a new path for everybody except Sophie. All the friends are excited about this new path. It is a beautiful path with tall trees and yellow and purple flowers on the ground.
It is a bright, sunny day- no storm clouds today! Sophie has a secret, and she wants to surprise all her friends. She wants everyone to stop at a special place for their snacks.
Now they are starting to climb up the mountain. But it is not too steep, and it is not hard to do. Everyone is still having fun, and soon they are at the top of the mountain.
“What a beautiful view!” says Ashley. “You can see down over the valley and our little town,” says Tom. Baba is not looking at the view; he just wants to swing from one tree branch to the next!
Bears love honey, and Jojo the Bear is in luck. He smells honey in a nearby tree. He talks to the bees and asks if he can have a little taste. They say okay, and so Jojo is a happy little bear!
“Do you want to have our snacks here at the top of the mountain?” asks Ashley. “No,” answers Sophie. “I know about a place that is even more special than here.”
Everybody wonders: Where is this special place that Sophie knows about? Where is she taking us? “Follow me,” says Sophie. And they all started to walk back down the mountain.
But this time, they follow a different path. There are trees and red and blue flowers on this path. However, something is different; there is a strange noise in the distance!
“What is that sound?” asks Bella. “It sounds like water,” says Josh. They are still walking on the path, and the noise gets louder and louder. Soon, it will be so loud they can’t hear each other talk!
What do you think it is? It’s a waterfall! A big waterfall with a pool of water at the bottom. “It’s beautiful!” they all say to Sophie. They all thank her for bringing them here.
They sit on rocks near the waterfall. They open their backpacks and pull out their snacks. Oops! Tom forgot to put something to drink in his backpack. Josh says, “Tom, I’ll share with you.”
Oops! Baba forgot to pack a snack. That’s okay. Ashley gives Baba some of her bright orange carrots. Baba likes bananas, but today he eats carrots. And there are no banana peels to clean up!
