Bella the Elephant loves to cook in her kitchen. She bakes cakes and uses the honey that comes from her garden. She bakes a cake and gives it to her friend, Lexa the Tiger.

Why does Bella bake a cake for Lexa? Because Lexa is her friend! But there is one more reason why Bella gives a cake to Lexa. It is because today is Lexa’s birthday!

Lexa is walking home now. She is carrying Bella’s tasty cake. She is walking on a path through the forest. She looks up at the trees. The leaves are making a lot of noise; it is windy.

Lexa tries to walk a little faster, but not too fast; she does not want to fall down and drop the cake. Now she looks up at the sky; it is very dark, and there are many clouds.

Lexa tries to walk even faster. Now the trees are bending in the wind. Many leaves are falling from the trees, and there are even some branches that are falling. Lexa is scared.

Now it starts to rain. At first, there are just a few drops of rain, but they are big drops. “Oh, no,” says Lexa. “I don’t want my cake to get wet. What can I do?”

Just then, she hears shouting. It sounds like someone is calling her name. “Lexa! Lexa!” cries the voice. Who is it? Lexa looks to the right and sees three children she knows!

It’s Sophie, Josh, and Tom. And they are inside a small cave. “Lexa!” shouts Josh. “Come over here. It is safe and dry in this cave.”

So Lexa walks as fast as she can. She does not want her cake to get wet from the rain. But she also does not want to drop her cake.

Soon, she comes to the cave where Sophie, Josh, and Tom are waiting. “See,” says Sophie. “This cave is a good place to wait until the storm is over.”

“What are you carrying, Lexa?” asks Tom. “It’s a cake,” answers Lexa. “Do you know my friend, Bella? She likes to bake cakes.”

There is a loud noise and a bright light. It is thunder and lightning. The three children and Lexa stay inside the cave. They look outside and see the rain, thunder, and lightning.

Now they hear another noise. A very big branch falls down from a tree. It lands right in front of the cave! How will Sophie, Josh, Tom, and Lexa get out of the cave?

“What can we do?” asks Sophie. “I don’t know,” answers Josh. “We must wait until the storm is over,” says Tom. So they all sit down on rocks inside the cave.

Now the big storm is finished: no more rain, no more wind, no more thunder, and no more lightning! Now it is time to try to leave the cave.

“It’s a really big tree branch,” says Lexa. “But I think we can move it.” She puts her cake box down on a rock. Then the four of them push and push and push. They can do it!

The big tree branch is now pushed to the side. Now they can leave the cave. Lexa picks up her cake box. But Sophie has a question: “Lexa, why are you carrying this cake box?”

Lexa smiles. “Today is my birthday,” she answers. “Your birthday?” says Sophie. “Yes,” says Lexa. “Do you want to come to my party?” Sophie, Josh, and Tom all say, “Yes!”

So they all go to their houses to get ready for Lexa’s birthday party. Lexa finally comes to her house and puts her cake in her kitchen!
