Baba the Monkey and Bella the Elephant are good friends. Baba can be naughty sometimes. But he is a nice monkey. He helps his new friend, Bella.

Bella’s house is in a tree. There is a front door and windows. She also has a nice garden around her house. She keeps the inside of her house clean. And Baba helps keep her garden clean.

Baba also helps Bella with her vegetable garden. There are carrots, tomatoes, and lots of other vegetables. Bella likes to cook, and sometimes Baba eats with Bella.

Today they are eating a meal together. Then, they eat dessert. “Bella,” says Baba. “This cake is so tasty.” “Thank you, Baba,” says Bella. “I use honey from a tree at the end of my garden.”

“Really?” asks Baba. “Yes,” says Bella. “The bees live up in that old tree. They make honey there because they like that tree. And they give me some of their honey.”

“I don’t know anything about honey,” says Baba. “Come with me,” says Bella. I’ll show you.” So they leave Bella’s house and walk to the end of the garden. “Where’s my honey?” says Bella.

They look up at the old tree. There is no honey and no bees! Nothing! All gone! “This is very strange,” says Bella. “Why are there no bees here?” “Look!” shouts Baba. Bella’s mouth and eyes are open wide! She cannot believe what she sees.

About three trees away, there is a bear sleeping on the ground, and his face is covered in honey!
Bella is not a very happy elephant right now. She walks over to the sleeping bear and shouts, “Why did you take my honey?” The bear jumps up and runs, but Baba catches him.

It is Jojo the Bear. Bears love honey, and now Jojo’s belly is full of Bella’s honey. Bella is still waiting for an answer. “I’m sorry,” says Jojo. “I love honey so much.”

“But don’t you know that stealing is wrong?” asks Bella. Jojo does not know what to say. He looks down at the ground. “Don’t you know what is right and what is wrong?” asks Bella.

Jojo does not know what to say, so he says, “I’m sorry” one more time. Bella says, “You must not steal things.” And then she and Baba walk back to Bella’s house.

Jojo is very sad. He knows that it is wrong to steal. But he loves honey so much! Now he has an idea. He leaves Bella’s garden and walks through the forest.

Bella and Baba are inside Bella’s house. They hear a knock at the door: Knock! Knock! Knock! Bella opens the door. She looks down. It is the little bear. “What do you want?” she asks.

“My name is Jojo the Bear,” he says. “And I want to show you something.” Bella is still unhappy about the honey. But she and Baba follow Jojo to the old tree at the end of the garden.

“I can’t believe it!” shouts Bella. “Look!” says Baba. There are hundreds of bees up in the tree, busy making honey. “Why are the bees making honey again in my old tree?” asks Bella.

Jojo the Bear tells Bella and Baba the story. “The bees are my friends,” says Jojo. “So I ask them to help me, and they follow me to this tree and start to make new honey for you.”

Now Bella is very happy. “Look at how busy the bees are,” she says. She is so happy that there is a tear in her eye. She wipes her eyes and then the end of her trunk.

“Come inside, Jojo,” says Bella. “You and Baba and I will have a nice cup of tea.” Bella puts everything on the table for their tea. She puts a little pot of honey on the table. Jojo smiles.
